Concrete Platform Legs

UK Project

Scope

The project was onboard an unmanned offshore platform within one of the concrete legs. The platform was situated in the U.K. North Sea sector.

A survey was commissioned to record the internal as-built configuration of the concrete leg to assist in the decommissioning process. As the facility was normally unmanned a helicopter was chartered to take personnel and equipment offshore. This limited the available time to complete the survey on site to an 8 hour visit. Due to the very short survey time the only technique available to complete the task within the limited time scale was a Rapid Laser Scanner. The key deliverable for the client was an accurate as-built PDMS model.

Benefits

The survey was completed within the single limited survey visit and significant time and costs saved using this technology as apposed to the traditional method of dimensional control or Digital Photogrammetry requiring multi visits.
